Top Dressing

  • High quality compost blended with your soil will improve soil structure creating a better zone or root development.
  • Increases moisture retention and infiltration making it possible to water your lawn less and suffer less run off.
  • Top Dressing helps to reduce soil acidity making for a more friendly environment for lawn growth.

Topdressing the lawn is the process of adding a fine layer of a specially mixed quality soil to the lawn surface. Top dressing improves the quality of the soil over a period of time – sandy soils will be able to retain moisture making the lawn more resistant to drought, clay soils will drain better. In either soil type topdressing improves root development. Another benefit is that topdressing will help to even out lumps and bumps that are present on an uneven lawn and stimulates the grass to produce new shoots resulting in a denser grass cover which helps combat the onset of weed and moss infestation.

Our topdressing is a specially formulated mixture of organic loam, sand and peat. The proportions of these 3 ingredients vary depending on your type of soil. We take care when applying the top dressing to make sure that you get an even spread of the top dressing over the area and to make sure that the top dressing does not remain ‘on top’ of the grass. The top dressing is spread over the required area and worked into the turfs soil surface.

Topdressing should be done in the autumn. We recommend topdressing every year to achieve a really top class lawn.
